Cover letter is an introduction of candidate to prospect employer and its main purpose is to gain the attraction of employer. Cover letter is an opportunity of interview with your prospective employer. The cover letter also known as covering letter, motivational letter, motivation letter, letter of motivation and job application. Cover letter mostly use by job seekers because it is a good supplement to resume which accompanies it. Cover letter explains an individual’s suitability to potential employers for a desire position.
Employer may ask for characterized and sympathetically written cover letter for screening of potential applicants. By demanding the cover letter from applicants employer knows many things about the applicants. It also enhance employer’s and the applicant’s experience.
Where employer takes help from cover letter for finding potential employee there it also helps in screening non-sufficient, who are not interested and lack of basic necessary skills.
A cover letter not only used by job seekers but it is also used for different purposes. A cover letter can also be use as loan application mostly mortgage loan. It also can be used as contract drafts, proposals, admission applications, and executive documents.
An invited cover letter for a known job opening is known as application letter. An un-invited cover letter for a possible position is known as prospecting letter. If a letter request for information and assistance in the sender’s job search that is known as networking letter.
A good cover letter should be short to one page only. It should contain neatness, good grammar, and accurate spellings. You should be specific and have to summarize your cover letter.
Contents of Cover Letter
Normally cover letter has three parts; opening paragraph, middle paragraph, and ending paragraphs or sections. If we start with opening paragraph/section then we should know that an opening paragraph/section could be four types; summary opening, name opening, question opening, and news item opening.
In summary opening paragraph you can write your three to four of your related qualification to the job you have applied for.
In name opening paragraphs you can start with name of person who influence you to apply only after taking his/her permission. Mostly people want to keep their name confidential due to certain reasons so you should take permission from them. If they allow you then you can use their names.
It is the most difficult but most effective way. Write the question which shows you have well understanding of the company and the significant need of that company. Show your employer that you understands company’s problem and needs (suggest them solutions how they can overcome the difficulties).
NEWS Item Opening
It is suggested to young and business persons read business publications frequently. Most of the people want to keep up with modern needs and demands so they learn, make, and experience with product knowledge, strategies, and market knowledge. You can give an idea of new product, financing, or a new strategy to your employer.
The middle paragraphs/section may have strength of two to three paragraphs that contains all the needed qualifications (for the job you are applying) to persuade your employer. The necessary qualifications may include your educational background, work experience, personal attitudes, interests, activities, and qualities.
These are some certain things writer should keep in mind while writing a cover letter’s middle paragraph. Do not repeat the facts that are included in resume. Write your strongest arguments first by prioritizing them. Write brief, valid, and evidential data to support your job qualifications. Write your potential qualification effectively that an employer requires from you.
Education considered most when you are a fresh student who is applying for the first job. It is suggested you to positively explain all of your achievements and never make a negative sentence or arguments. Summarize all of your education but make your skills prominent. Write your basic degree and relate your elective subjects how they support.
Your full time or part time job experience and activities to accomplish your education add value to your resume. Write your related experience first and try to relate overall experience and skills with job you are applying. You should also need to explain your work achievements.
Personal Attitude, Achievements, Awards, Service Activities, Hobbies, and Interest
It is a positive action if you effectively relate your attitude, interest, activities and qualities with the job you are applying. Explain it to your employer/reader how qualities are beneficial to the job you are applying.
Last paragraph is used for conclusion and suggestions. If we considered first paragraph question then last is the answer to that question.
